Chilai Kalan in Kashmir, The King of Winter is here. ❄️
From today, December 21, Kashmir steps into Chillai Kalan—the toughest yet most soulful 40 days of winter. The cold deepens, days grow quieter, and the valley slowly learns to breathe in silence.
It’s the time when mornings begin with numb fingers and warm hearts. When a Pheran feels like home, a Kangri feels like life, and a cup of Nun Chai tastes like comfort. Streets turn white, nights grow longer, and stories feel warmer around the fire.
This year, winter didn’t come empty-handed. Snow in the upper reaches and rain in the plains have finally broken the dry spell—a quiet blessing for our land, rivers, and glaciers.
Chillai Kalan is harsh, yes. But it also reminds us who we are—resilient, rooted, and close to warmth in the simplest things.
Stay warm. Stay safe. Let the valley rest.
